    NKUST Scholarship Information

    Monthly awards for new students

    NT$3,000 monthly

    Requirement

    Apply while applying for admission. Those who pass the qualification review and are approved by the review meeting may be exempted from tuition and fees and credit fees (excluding fees for accommodation, computer and internet connection, books and insurance).

    1.The maximum number of places to be issued is a quarter of the number of applicants for each college in the current academic year. If the number of applicants for each school in the academic year is less than 4, the maximum number of places to be issued is one. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places that can be issued by the school in the current year, the colleges will recommend them after a preliminary review.

    2. Scholarships for new students of different programs are limited to one application per person; for monthly scholarships and exemption of tuition, fees and credit fees, a maximum of four years for the undergraduates of four-year program; two years for undergraduates of two-year program; two years for master’s degree students. However, the suspension period is not included.

    Apply while applying for admission. Those who are admitted and pass the review of eligibility will be granted NT$3,000 monthly. The awards are granted twice respectively.

    Requirement

    When applying for admission, new students who pass the qualification review and are approved by the review meeting may be exempted from tuition and fees and credit fees.

    1.New students: When new students apply for admission, it will be reviewed and approved by International Scholarship and Bursary Review Committee, and ratified by the President.

    2.Scholarships for new students are limited to one application per person; for monthly scholarships, tuition and fees, and credit fees, a maximum of four years for doctoral students. However, the suspension period is not included.

    3.The funding for these regulations is covered by the subsidy from Ministry of Education, the NKUST budget allocation (including self-raised income distribution) and faculty's selfraised funds. The number of scholarships can be adjusted flexibly according to the income and expenditure of various funds in the current year.

    New students apply while applying for admission in accordance with 3. 1. Those who are admitted and pass the review of eligibility will be granted NT$12,000 monthly.

    1.At the time of admission application, the students, who are selected as the first in line by an advisor at the rank of assistant professor or above, will be awarded monthly scholarship; for those who are not in the first in line, the scholarship will be funded by the advisor.

    2.For those who have not selected an advisor at the time of enrollment, their monthly scholarship will be reviewed based on the new student’s merits and various research achievements, as well as the current year budget.

    3.Scholarships for new students are limited to one application per person; for monthly scholarships, tuition and fees, and credit fees, a maximum of four years for doctoral students. However, the suspension period is not included.

    4.The scholarships are awarded for an academic year. The monthly scholarship is issued for a total of twelve months and distributed on a monthly basis. After the awarded new students and current students complete the registration procedures on the first day of the semester, they must submit an assessment form to Office of International Affairs for reference every month. The assessment form is drawn up separately to serve as the basis for reviewing future scholarship renewals or new applications. Awarded new students should take at least one Chinese language course, or be credited with a test of Chinese Language Proficiency (TOCFL) B or higher score or certificate, and their Chinese score will be used as the basis for subsequent scholarship review.

    Ministry of Education-Elite Scholarship Program

    Eligibility

    Qualification of international students who are Doctoral degree-seeking applicants, and currently are university lecturers or professors in Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Countries of Africa.

    *Up to date Lecturer Certificate (English version) is required.

    Duration of Scholarships

     3 years (in Ph.D. programs reviewed annually)

    *Students have to complete the enrolment procedures every semester to receive the three-year continuous scholarship.

    *Apply this scholarship while applying for admission.

    *The admission application will be evaluated by the OIA, department and the Admission Administrative meeting.

    *The applicant is required to upload the up-to-date Lecturer Certificate to the system, the scholarship application will be reviewed by NKUST OIA and the MOE.

    Remarks

    Students may not apply if they:

    1.Hold Taiwan (R.O.C.) nationality or have the status of an overseas Chinese student.

    2.Are enrolled or have retained admission in a university in Taiwan. (This restriction does not apply to students who are on course to graduate and will be pursuing their next degree; however, they must still be a lecturer from a South or Southeast Asian country.)

    3.Previously studied in Taiwan for a degree at the same level.

    4.Are exchange students or dual-degree students through a partnership agreement with an institution overseas.

    5.Has already received stipends through this program for more than three years.

    6.Have been awarded by foreign governmental institutionsor scholarship from a Taiwan (R.O.C.) government agency to support their studies in Taiwan.

    Note:

    *Recipients are NOT allowed to receive NKUST Scholarship for Outstanding Foreign Students during the offered period of this scholarship.

    *Recipients should have completed the enrollment procedures in the semesters in order to receive continuous stipend for the studies in Taiwan.

    *Scholarship will be cancelled if recipients apply for a deferment, suspension, or get expelled from the enrolled program(s).
